How can tech help achieve the SDGs? Interview with WSIS Chair (VIDEO)

The United Arab Emirates (UAE) — platinum sponsor of this year’s WSIS Forum at ITU in Geneva, Switzerland — is putting information and communications technology (ICT) services at the forefront of efforts to improve lives in the UAE.

In an interview, H.E. Eng. Majed Sultan Al Mesmar, Deputy Director General of the Telecommunication Sector for the Telecommunications Regulatory Authority (TRA) of the UAE — and Chairman of WSIS Forum 2018 — also reflected on the importance of the WSIS platform and its multi-stakeholder approach in addressing the United Nations’ Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).

‘In 2015, when the UN approved the SDGs, UAE was among the first countries to align its plans and strategies with that.’ – H.E Al Mesmar.

And what do all WSIS initiatives have in common?

According to H.E. Al Mesmar, they all take into account the important role of ICTs in implementing and achieving the SDGs.
