Prevent hearing loss by following ITU’s Safe Listening Standard

By ITU News

Are you listening to your music too loud? Listening for too long? Be careful, because unsafe listening practices contribute to irreversible hearing loss.

The World Health Organization estimates that 1.1 billion youth are at risk of losing their hearing.

For World Hearing Day, the international day to prevent hearing loss, ITU is promoting the Safe Listening Toolkit, a reference guide for implementing the ITU Safe Listening Standard.

Listen to Dr Shelly Chadha, who leads the World Health Organization’s work on prevention of deafness; Roxana Widmer-Iliescu, Senior Programme Officer in Digital Inclusion at ITU and the ITU-D Focal Point in ICT Accessibility. And hear from a global youth advocate for safe listening, Grace Emilie Leech.
