UN Secretary-General: How AI can serve the global good

By ITU News

The first annual Artificial Intelligence (AI) for Good Global Summit was launched today with a welcome speech by the United Nations (UN) Secretary-General António Guterres.

Organized by ITU and the XPRIZE Foundation, the Summit is highlighting the growing importance of AI and its potential applications for social good.

In his speech, Guterres acknowledged AI’s current role in transforming our world socially, economically and politically. He also outlined the challenges and ethical issues posed with regard to cybersecurity, human rights, privacy and the labor market. Guterres also mentioned the implications of AI for developing countries – in particular that they can gain from AI but that they also face the risk of being left behind.

“Together, let us make sure we use artificial intelligence to enhance human dignity and serve the global good.” — UN Secretary-General António Guterres
