What can motorsport teach us about connected car innovation? Interview with James Colgate (VIDEO)

Key players in the evolving world of connected and autonomous driving are constantly looking for innovative ways to improve products and services. And the advanced technology used in motorsport is offering new solutions.

During last week’s Symposium on the Future Networked Car at the Geneva International Motor Show, ITU discussed with James Colgate, Strategy Director at Williams F1, how Formula 1 technology is being applied across the automotive sector.

In terms of data, Mr. Colgate believes it is at the cornerstone of the entire business, as it is easy to collect and allows for informed decision-making.

And when we will see fully autonomous cars on the road?

Mr. Colgate said that although the technology is there, it probably will not happen until the vehicles can be fully integrated into the road networks and the mixed environment.
